Summary in plain words
We collect what we need to verify who you are, build a model's AI clone, make approved ads and pay people. Face data is the most sensitive thing we hold, so we ask for it with a separate, clear consent, use it only for your clone and your ads, keep it protected, and delete it when you leave. Some processing happens outside Ethiopia with trusted providers, only with the approvals and safeguards the law requires. We never sell your data. You can see, correct, download or delete your data.
1. Who is responsible

- Registration with the Ethiopian Communications Authority: application in preparation; we will publish the number and date here once issued. Today our database and photo storage are in the European Union (Frankfurt, Germany), so the face images and ID photos you upload are stored there (see section 6). We are asking the Authority to authorise this. Authorised transfers, with the provider type and country, will be listed here.

Face data, ID and clones are sensitive (biometric) data. We collect them only with your explicit consent.
3. Why we use it
- To check you are a real adult and who you say you are, and to stop fraud.
- To build the model's clone and make ads the model approved.
- To take payments, pay models, and keep tax and accounting records.
- To label ads as AI and keep a record that proves consent for each ad.
- To keep the platform safe, handle reports and takedowns, and meet the law.
- To send service messages. Marketing only if you agree.
- To follow up with brands who asked for a live try, and to contact models on the waitlist when applications open.
- To review model applications: a Konjit reviewer compares your selfie with the photo on your ID by hand, to check that you are a real adult and that the ID is yours. Applications are not decided by automated face matching. The selfie is taken live with your camera as 3 quick photos (looking straight, head turned, smiling), and we keep all three with your application.
- To understand, in aggregate, which pages, models and products people use, so we can improve the site.
- In the Konjit app, only if a brand turns on "Personalise Discover": to remember which models that brand saved or skipped, and use it only to order the models we show that same brand. It is off unless you turn it on, you can turn it off in Account, and it is never sold or shared.
We do not: sell your data; use face data for advertising profiles; or use your face to train general AI models unless you turn on the separate AI-training opt-in.
4. Legal basis
- Explicit consent for building and keeping your clone and face data, house campaigns and AI training. You can withdraw it at any time; we then delete your clone and face templates within 30 days.
- Contract for running a paid ad you approved until its licence ends (see Terms B7).
- Contract: to provide the service you signed up for.
- Legal duty: tax, anti-fraud, sanctions and record-keeping.
- Legitimate interest: security and preventing misuse, balanced against your rights.
5. Who we share it with
- Brands: your public profile, watermarked previews and approved ads only. Never your ID, selfies or payout details.
- Application selfie and ID photo: seen only by Konjit reviewers. Never shown to brands or the public. Stored privately with our cloud hosting and storage provider.
- Service providers working for us under contract: AI image and video technology providers, cloud hosting and storage, identity verification services, licensed payment and payout providers, and messaging (email and SMS) providers. They may use your data only to provide their service to us.
- Authorities, when the law requires it.
- A buyer of our business, under the same protections, with notice to you.
6. Sending data across borders
- Konjit is a UAE company, and some providers are in other countries. So your data, including face data, may be processed outside Ethiopia.
- Before sending sensitive data out of Ethiopia, we will obtain the approval the Ethiopian Personal Data Protection Proclamation No. 1321/2024 requires, and ask for your explicit consent, telling you the type of provider and the country.
- We use contracts that require providers to protect your data to the standard of the laws that apply (including the UAE Personal Data Protection Law and, where relevant, the EU GDPR), and we send the minimum data needed.
7. How long we keep it
- Live selfie checks after approval (for example when you change payout details): deleted within 30 days, keeping only the result.
- Clone and photos: while your account is active; deleted within 30 days after you use the kill switch, withdraw consent or close your account. Finished approved ads are kept only as needed for live licences.
- Contracts, consent records, approvals and payment records: as long as the law requires (often several years) to prove consent and meet tax rules.
- Model applications (selfie, ID photo and details): if your application is rejected, we delete your selfie and ID photo within 90 days of the decision. If it is approved, we keep them while your account is active to prove who you are, and delete them within 30 days after you close your account and your last licence ends, keeping only the verification result and the signed licence record. You can withdraw an application at any time by emailing us, and we will delete it.
- Brand lead and model waitlist details: up to 24 months from when you sent them, or until you ask us to delete them, whichever comes first. They are stored with our database and hosting providers.
- Studio previews (images our AI makes for you in the studio): kept privately so we can see what was made and improve our quality checks. A preview our quality check replaced with a better one is deleted after 90 days. A preview appears in the public "Made with Konjit" gallery only if you tick "OK to showcase", and you can untick it or ask us to delete it at any time.
- Anonymous visit statistics and try-on usage: kept in aggregate; they do not identify you.
8. Security
- Encryption in storage and transfer; payout details show only the last 4 digits.
- Strict staff access, a log of every time staff view an ID photo or selfie, two-step sign-in for staff, and a live selfie check for sensitive changes.
- If a breach puts you at risk, we will tell you and the Ethiopian Communications Authority within 72 hours of finding it, and other regulators as the law requires.
- Before processing face data at scale we complete a data protection impact assessment.
9. Your rights
You can ask to see, correct, download or delete your data, object to some uses, and withdraw consent. Use the app settings or email us. We answer within 30 days. To delete details you left in the brand studio or on the model waitlist, email us from the same address or tell us the phone number you used, and we will delete them. You can also complain to the Ethiopian Communications Authority, the data protection authority that applies to us in the UAE, or another regulator where you live.
10. Age
Konjit is for people 18 and older. We do not knowingly collect data from children. If we find any, we delete it.
11. Changes
We will tell you about important changes at least 30 days in advance in the app and by email.
